Eventually, the tensions between the Green and White Martians led to a devastating civil war on their homeworld of Ma'aleca'andra with massive casualties on both sides. Despite this being the case, the Green Martians emerged as the victors and defeated their aggressive White Martian kin who were exiled into the [[Still Zone]]. With the war over, the Green Martians turned their attention to the H'ronmeerca'andra colonies and granted them independence thus allowing them to live their own lives whilst the inhabitants of Mars focused on their own world.

Despite their new found freedom, the same divisions that plagued the Martian races came upon the Saturnians with the Red and White branches of the civilization fighting one another in a never ending war for centuries which continued even to the modern age. During this time, the Red Saturnians developed their own society and religion where at one point [[Jargon the Mighty]] helped bring peace between the two races. It was later prophecised that a child would be born from the ranks of the Red Saturnians who would bear the ''"Mark of Jargon"'' and help end the conflicts plaguing Saturn.

It was created by the Martian due to the fact that he was born without the ability to communicate telepathically which was a common power of all his brethren and thus he devised a weapon that targeted these psionic gifts.

At the height of the Green Martian civilization on [[Mars]], Ma'alefa'ak unleashed the plague that destroyed the entirety of his race by infecting anyone that used their telepathic powers whereupon they contracted the virus which let loose a mental fire within their own minds. Due to its nature, it was contagious and spread through telepathy where it led to a psychological combustion and created an innate fear of fire amongst the race. It's victims were often found cursed with the mark of H'ronmeer which was the symbol of the Death God and was burnt upon their heads. The Curse was the act that was responsible for the extinction of the Green Martian race.

In those final days of H'ronmeer's Curse, [[J'onn J'onzz]] was noted as being responsible for the burning of the bodies of the plague victims and was notable for scouring the plains of his homeworld whilst tracking down those that possessed the dreaded mark of H'ronmeer. Amongst the many victims of the plague were J'onzz's own [[M'yru'ah J'onzz|wife]] and [[K'hym J'onzz|daughter]] who died in his arms. Before the Curse could infect J'onzz's as well, he was snatched from Mars by a transmitter on [[Earth]] which transported him through time and space.
