The B'Ool Sporath, also known as the Bloodworms of Mars, were creatures that evolved on the Martian homeworld of Mars. These native predators were sensitive to telepathic activity and targeted those prey that possessed such a feat. This led to them becoming the natural enemy of both the Green Martian and White Martian races. Bloodworms were feared creatures who were capable of moving underground at superhuman speeds as well as spat acid that dissolved anything in their path. In addition, they evolved to possess a number of razor sharp teeth and appendages.
The predations of the Bloodworms on the Martians led to the first alliance between the White and Green Martians who decided to unite in order to rid themselves of the their natural enemy. Their first act was to gather all the creatures whereupon they were deposited onto the moon of Phobos which in turn was bombarded from long range in an effort to destroy them. Whilst believed to had been successful, the White Martians had infact diverted some of the explosives from the target and spirited some of the predators away to the nearby primitive world of Earth where they incubated the young as part of a plan of controlling them and using the Bloodworms as a weapon against the Green Martians in the future. Despite their plans, the Bloodworms of Mars were forgotten and left abandoned in a secret laboratory on Earth for millennia

At some point thousands of years later after the virtual extinction of the Martian civilizations, the abandoned Bloodworms managed to escape from their imprisonment on Earth where they began murdering humans in order to feed themselves. This attracted the attention of J'onn J'onzz; the Martian Manhunter who confronted the B'Ool Sporath. In an effort to protect himself from the predators acidic attacks, J'onzz changed his ship to match those of the creatures human victims who had been reduced to skeletons which remained intact despite the acids. This kept him safe long enough in order to hurl the Bloodworms into space seemingly ended the threat posed by the species which died upon re-entry.
However, J'onn J'onzz took the last of the Bloodworm eggs to his home as he did not wish to eradicate a Martian species; even if it was a natural enemy to his people.
